C'mon now, I'm not inflating anything, I'm just reporting a number; from the time you placed your order to the time Valve thinks they can fulfil that order is 18 months, give or take. They were pretty clear that they weren't going to be sending them out then and there, so I don't even know why you're counting July - February other than to inflate the number in bad faith.
Now, you can go ahead and justify number any way you want. Yes, of course it was a preorder so there is some wait expectation built into that, although most businesses tend not to take preorders that require more than a few weeks or a few months to fulfil. Taking preorders that you can't fulfil for well past a year would seem to be the "bad faith" act here, but that's just me. I've seen ERA posters crucified for less apologetic stances than this.

If I was ever considering SteamRomManager I'm definitely not anymore.
- #5,704
I forgot to reply to this, but since I used Steam ROM manager a while ago, I quickly figured out it's more convenient and cleaner to just download them from SteamGrid and add them manually (unless you have to add a billion games of course) but if you don't want to open every game to get the horizontal cover to show up (I don't have a Deck so adjust this to SteamOS) go to the Steam\userdata\yourID\config\grid folder and find the game you need, you're gonna see, for example, "0123456789p" for the vertical cover, "0123456789_logo" for the logo, "0123456789_hero" for the background and you can just add and rename your horizontal cover as "0123456789", no suffix. If you hover over the game you can see that it's been applied.Oh wow, that is one mystery solved. I've been trying to get this to work for weeks.Crazy that the game/app needs to be in the first position to set the horizontal, and you have to open another game to move the icon to the right so you can then set the vertical art.
This will probably be ironed out over time, but whew.

I've been playing Nioh for the first time via Moonlight and as sensitive as I am to input lag, I honestly can't detect any in this type of game. For shmups I probably could, but for anything that has any sort of wind-up animations it's completely negligible. I've seen 5-7ms thrown around as to how much input lag Moonlight adds. In terms of visual fidelity, whatever desktop PC you have will certainly perform better than a Steam Deck regardless. In my case, 3D games look significantly better when downscaled from 1440p and maxed settings than when running natively on the Deck. If you're worried about bandwidth, save the money from buying an expensive SD card and just get an enterprise grade WiFi access point. I'm running Moonlight at its max 150Mbps without issue using an access point that cost like €50 (and solved so many other networking headaches).
Heck, using Steam Remote Play this approach might even apply to playing away from home if your desktop PC is still running. Obviously more input lag than a local network but I'd say its on par with something like Stadia and I've had really good experiences playing anything that doesn't require ultra precise input timing.
Also you can easily use Moonlight to stream your desktop applications as well, so if you need to run Photoshop or MS Office or whatever on your Deck, knock yourself out. Stream Remote Play is a lot more limited with this, unfortunately, but there are workarounds that can even make that happen when out and about.

Can I ask why you prefer it over SteamRomManager? I use it on my PC and I like it well enough, so I was planning on just doing the same thing on my deck once that arrives. But I'm always on the lookout for a better system.I've got some display offset issue with NES games but otherwise EmuDeck + EmulationStation does what it says on the tin. Fixed my hotkey issues. Gamecube controls they mapped are a little weird but so is that controller. If I was ever considering SteamRomManager I'm definitely not anymore.
- #5,708
Are we even using the same emu? Just to be sure, you are using standalone dolphin downloaded from app discovery right?I will tonight after work and let you know
I tried Twin Snake, did the first section, took the elevator to the snowy area then got inside the base. Solid 60fps with maybe 1 or 2 dips to 58. Cutscenes are 30 but I think that's normal.

I will tonight after work and let you know
So I ended up just running EmuDeck again which re-setup everything from scratch and probably removed some bad settings I had. Things are better. Also for twin snakes, the codec screen is blue if you have 'efb copies to texture only' enabled. If you disable it, its fixed. But also, if its disabled, the framerate is incosistent. So I'll stick with the blue codec screen I guess since it doesn't drop at all now.
- #5,711
I dont have any of these issues. Codec works fine and framerate is stable. So I ended up just running EmuDeck again which re-setup everything from scratch and probably removed some bad settings I had. This is what I experience
Are you using texture packs? (which I guess fix that issue). Honestly I can't complain anymore now that the performance is perfectly stable. Stopping my MGS1 play through and going back to Twin Snakes.

Oh that's what you mean by blue. Yes it is the same for me. I did not even realize it. I thought you mean the whole screen was blue with no imageThis is what I experience

Am I doing something wrong? my transfer speed with Winscp is 100kb lol.Sorry I'm late , I'm Italian and I was sleeping.
As I may suck in writing in perfect English/American language, I can re-direct to this guide as for the WinSCP guide.
Once you've established a connection between your Gaming PC and your Steam Deck and have enabled the "show hidden files" as explained in the above guide, you can do as follows:
No hassle with permission or similar other thing as WinSCP took care of it during the copy process.
- from Steam Gaming interface on Steam Deck start download the game you already have into your Gaming Pc - let's suppose is Ghostwire Tokyo).
- after a while (such as the download of the shader and other wrappers Steam Deck may need) when you see it's starting downloading the real game pause the game and go to the Desktop mode.
- From WinSCP left panel, reach your Steam gaming folder in your pc folder and see which is the game to copy (say it's in disk E:, so E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Ghostwire Tokyo)
- reach the (hidden) folder on the Steam Deck containing Steam game (/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/)
- on the Steam Deck you will see the Ghostwire Tokyo folder.
- enter both folders (on your gaming PC and on your Steam Deck)Drag and drop the content of the GT folder of your PC gaming into the GT folder of your Steam Deck. Pay attention to the estimated copy time: Steam Deck went in sleep mode after a while I had to turn back on and do not touch anything on WinSCP once it senses the SD is back awake it continues to copy file - I do not know how to change the sleep timing on SD - I'm investigating. Meanwhile I was clicking the screen to avoid that...
- When copy is done, close WinSCP
- Return to Steam Gaming UI
- Uninstall the suspended game.
- Press install again
- Steam Deck will check the already present files in the game folder.
- After the validation ends your game is ready (that the Steam Deck will see completely downloaded now).
- Run the game.
Note1: why to use LAN instead of download? My LAN speed stays fixed to 110MB/s while my download ethernet speed from Steam varies between 80MB/S to 108MB/s so there is a valid reason, I think.
Note2: To successfully play with GT on your Steam Deck you need to be in Proton GE 7.2. I've tried with an unsupported game to be sure the process is right (and it's working).
Now someone explain the battery tricks I may apply
Edit:
Nevermind
I was not on the same wifi

Anybody having the right track pad and joystick haptics being on and super sensitive during steam os, Steam menu, and "…." Menu are up? Works fine in games but it's been doing it since the last update.
So it was fine before the update? I only got mine this past Monday. My right trackpad haptics are pretty noticeably stronger than the left, which makes sensitivity feel different compared to the left. I have seen on Steam that it is very very common and a haptics tool to adjust strength of each side was promised and just now added today. Have you tried those new adjustments?
- #5,726
Hmm. This isn't what I hoped for. I set the left haptics as low as they would go (1), and they're still more pronounced than the right (which is still at the recommend default of 5). Grrr.Adjusting haptic strength for left and right Trackpads

Pinball Arcade is stuck at a much smaller resolution than the screen in DX11 mode, and the configuration utility doesn't seem to have any choices that directly affect DX11 screen resolution. DX9 runs in full screen, but this sacrifices some effects like room brightness and ball reflections. Any ideas on how to get it to run full screen in DX11?
I just checked the proton bug list and didn't see this game listed, so it may be worth filing a bug on the proton github where valve can see that there are compatibility issues w/ dx11 mode. Generally, gamescope should handle fullscreen automatically on steam deck but it might be failing in this scenario.

Wow that sucks. Is there no way to back up your input settings somewhere?
You can back up steam input configs but its a manual process not automatic (need to export the config). Lesson learned I guess since I can't trust valve. If it were only keys it'd be a minor inconvenience but I tweaked pretty much every slider in the trackpad menu and thats gonna be hell to try replicate what I was used to.Aren't Steam Input configurations saved on the steam servers? Have you tried browsing the "Your Configurations" folder?
- #5,732
Aw, that blows, back when I first got my Steam Controller I spent a loooong time setting up input configs for different games. Honestly, I spent more time configuring my Steam Controller for games than I ever actually played them, haha.Oh ffs the new update deleted my custom steam input for morrowind. Fucking christ, it took a lot of time to tweak everything just right and its all deleted. Fucking hell Valve.
Moonlight is really impressive. All the PC gaming I've done in the last 4 years or so has all been streamed to my iPad and the vast majority of the time the performance is imperceptible to native for me.Btw unless you're dead-set on playing Windows-only games away from home, I highly suggest just installing Moonlight (or just using Steam Remote play) and streaming from a desktop PC instead of dual-booting or replacing SteamOS entirely.I've been playing Nioh for the first time via Moonlight and as sensitive as I am to input lag, I honestly can't detect any in this type of game. For shmups I probably could, but for anything that has any sort of wind-up animations it's completely negligible. I've seen 5-7ms thrown around as to how much input lag Moonlight adds. Honestly, the only Windows exclusive I care much about playing is Halo Wars 2 which I bought fairly recently. And I suppose if any games don't run great on Steam Deck right away I can always just stream them.

Just installed Armor Princess to check for you. It works fine.Unfortunately the text doesn't really "scale" down to 1280x800 so it ends up very pixelated and seems to lack hinting, making it somewhat unreadable - even when using the magnifier. Maybe gamescope can be used to force higher resolution that are then scaled down (I doubt performance would be an issue) but I haven't looked into that myself yet.
Also the water looked buggy as heck for me when set to the default "High". Switched it down to "Normal" and now it looks correct.
So yeah, if you're going to read the story it's not gonna be a good experience. If you just want to battle and do campaign stuff it's perfectly servicable.
Thank you for checking! It sounds dad feasible!

You're telling me the fan is loud enough to hear over the noise of jet engines on a plane? Come on.
I know for someone that isn't getting a Deck anytime soon it must be painful to catch up with the news, but the article you posted means squiddly shit, it's been proven that whatever fan the press got, is just does the typical woosh sounds, is not the same as the one being reported to be high pitched, so you can be sure that no matter if it is a trans/continental flight, a bus ride, or the express to Cardiff the one next to you is going to notice the mini shrieking banshee on your hands. You are underestimating the noise of a plane. I've seen reviews that specifically call this out. Here's PC gamer for one:
They tested around low 40s to mid 50s decibels.
Now, if something is wrong with the fan and the device needs to be RMA'ed, I'm not saying it shouldn't be. I'm just highly doubting even the worst offenders would make a dent on an airplane.

Maybe just try to install it via the setup.exe added to steam and install it in some home directory. That way I just got Bnet working.Has anyone gotten the EA desktop beta app working?

Oh my god….why ? Skie of arcadia……..never thought of playing it on steam deck ! But now i want to try it when i will get it. Even if chrono cross is going to be my one of my fist game on it.Dolphin runs great for me. I tested a bunch of gc and wii games and they all run pretty much flawlessly. For Wii, you have to mess with the controls. Like I played Donkey Kong Country Returns with the motion move mapped to a button and it was glorious. last Story had some slight stutter but nothing major. Skies of Arcadia and Paper Mario TYD had no issue at allWhat's not working for you?

You got in the Q2 batch with a week later preorder? I ordered an hour later (actually I tried ordering within the first few seconds but Valve locked me into a pending state for an hour then just cancelled my preorder) and I'm in Q3Still preferable to having to set up scripts, being subscribed to a dozen channels for notifications and having to be on top of them constantly. Like, yeah, you may not be in the first batch, but at least you're in line and can get one with relatively low effort demanded instead of being constantly cut off by scalpers or people who are willing to put way more effort into securing a unit.As for putting things into perspective, I ordered mine between one and two weeks after pre-orders went open, and I'm slated to get it only 5-6 months after the folks who did so within the first minutes. That's pretty good if you ask me.
- #5,744
My old 3570k could back then, with significantly older builds of Dolphin. I'm pretty sure the more modern CPU on the Steam Deck won't have issuesWould Super Mario Galaxy 2 work well or does it really require motion move to play?Super curious if Deck can maintain 720/60

The white paint on the joystick right where it meets the plastic edge of the casing around the analog is chipping off (why the fuck would you paint a joystick) on the top right (probably because that's the most commonly used directions?). Which makes the analog stick feel awful when spun in a circle/it gets caught sort of on the top right and has friction there. Will take a picture tomorrow, but it's pretty annoying seeing as how it's not even a month old
- #5,746

Also Q3 (Jul-Sep) so it should've said 5-7. Though, perhaps optimistically, that crowdsourced delivery estimate site indicated July iirc. Maybe the reason I'm not even later is a matter of regional allotments.
- #5,748
Looking at my Deck pre-order page it originally said September to October and now it says July to September. I wonder what changed to be moved forward by nearly 2 months. I wonder if folks just didn't like the initial release after reviews and canceled? I still want a Steam Deck regardless. It'll be the perfect portable emulation device.
It never said September to October, that's not a quarter. Your memories are wrong.
